Wow I can't believe we are already starting our fourth week back.  It has been wonderful to get to know your child these past few weeks.  As you know I will be teaching the Grade Five students every morning.  Typically our week will go as follows:

Mon    1st Block Language Arts                                          2nd Block Mathematics
Tues   1st Block Mathematics                                              2nd Block Language Arts
Wed    1st Block Religion/Family Life and Language Arts   2nd Block Mathematics/Library
Thurs  1st Block Mathematics                                             2nd Block Language Arts
Fri       1st Block Language Arts                                          2nd Block Religion/Family Life                                                                                                                         and Mathematics

We have started our first Mathematics unit in Numeration.  We will explore decimal numbers and whole numbers from 0.01 to 100 000.  Your child will represent numbers using materials such as place value mats and base tens.  They will learn to compare and order numbers.  As well your child will estimate and count money amounts to $1000.00.

In Language, our focus this week is a series of lessons on Digital Citizenship.  "He wanted to justify himself" is a verse from the Good Samaritan and it is our guiding parable as the class learns how to participate appropriately online

Homework this year will be any work not completed in class.  I will be asking students to review the timetables at home and to read each night for 15 to 20.  They will be given a booklog.to track their reading which they can place in their red duotang.

I look forward to meeting you tonight.
Mrs. T
