Advent is Here! And we are waiting.

Today we started the morning with a focus on the meaning of Advent.  At the start of each morning during Advent we will have a short prayer and reflection.

In Math we are starting our first Measurement unit.  We will focus before Christmas on the metric system with a concentration on linear measurement.  By the end of the unit Grade 5 students should be able to solve problems requiring conversion from metres to centimetres and from kilometres to metres.  For example 5.1 m is _____ cm.  To prepare for the unit the students completed a brief pre-assessment today.  I will send the pre-assessment home this week.  Many students are unclear which is smaller a m, cm or mm.  During the next few weeks encourage your child to measure the size packages, ornaments, or how much wrapping paper might be needed to wrap a gift etc.

In Language, we will focus on Media Literacy for the next two weeks.  Students are asked to bring in print ads that they find in magazines and flyers at home.
