Welcome to Grade 3 and the first blog post of the 2018-19 school year!  It looks like
we will have lots of fun together this year. The students are settling nicely into the
class routines.

This week in Language, we worked on a little book about our summer holidays

which will be on display at our Meet the Teacher night.  We also had our first poem
of the week and first set of Word Wall Words. Today I dictated two sentences to
the students that had 3 words from the list.  These sentences will be sent home for
your to see and sign. Marks were given if the three words were spelled correctly and
they used proper sentence form (i.e. capital and period).  Bonus points for a sentence
they composed themselves or if they got every word and punctuation correct.

In Mathematics, we began our Place Value unit.  Grade 3 students should be able
to read, represent, order and compare numbers to 1000.  We have also focused
on skip counting by 2’s this week.

You will notice in the sidebar of the blog that I have put the Words of the Week
as well as important school dates.

On Monday, I will hand out the first homework assignment for the school year.
I typically send homework home on Monday and it is due back on Friday.
The homework consists of a math activity and a reading log.  Homework
should not take more than 20 minutes a night.

Monday, your child will also bring home the Student Verification Form.  Please
read it over and check for any information that has changed or that is incorrect.
If there are changes please mark them on the form, sign the form and return it
to the school.  If there are no changes then just sign the form and return to school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. T.
